Carta no. 2

¿Entramos en ambiente con Mahler? Sublime, ¿no crees?

En las últimas décadas, se ha producido un estallido sin precedentes en el volumen de fotos. Impulsado en gran medida por el desarrollo tecnológico, corresponde a un exceso de imágenes digitales que nos abruma y adormece, robándonos la experiencia a través del consumo, la intermediación, y la posibilidad de reproducción infinita.

¿Tú también lo sientes?
¿La confusión provocada por la observación distante, las ilusiones estéticas, la rapidez, y la acumulación pasiva que transmiten ideas distorsionadas sobre la vida?

Ciertamente, no todo es malo. Como en todo, es un espectro… un péndulo, en realidad.

El fotobordado que realizo abandona lo impersonal y trasciende la conservación de fotografía y la decoración.

El arte fotográfico al que me dedico consiste en explorar preguntas, sentir completamente, y ampliar el significado de las fotos en lugar de usarlas. Honra el contexto, los recuerdos, y la naturaleza efímera de la experiencia, ofreciendo una versión renovada de las imágenes que invita a habitar plenamente el momento presente mientras avanzamos individual y colectivamente. Su creación es un viaje lento, en sintonía con el oficio y la vida, que imbuye en fotos preciadas belleza y textura que despierta vitalidad, mientras celebra y construye sobre el hilo que une a las mujeres desde hace miles de años y a través de numerosas culturas de todo el mundo que continúan dedicándose al trabajo textil.

Escribo esto ya conmovida por la experiencia de reimaginar tus imágenes con mis agujas, al igual que por hilarte visiblemente con el mundo vivo, interdependiente, y maravilloso del que todos formamos parte, a pesar de los horrores y las ficciones de separación que vienen siendo desplegados a nivel mundial desde hace mucho tiempo. Afortunadamente, mañana es día de luna nueva marcada por el inicio del Año Nuevo chino del Caballo de Fuego, y este viernes sucederá la conjunción Saturno-Neptuno en el punto 0° de Aries.

Shall we get into the mood with Mahler? Sublime, don’t you think?

There has been an unprecedented surplus of photos in recent decades, an excess of digital imagery driven mainly by technological development that overwhelms and numbs us, robbing us of experience through consumption, intermediation, and the possibility of endless reproduction.

Do you feel it too?
The confusion brought on by distant witnessing, aesthetic illusions, speed, and passive accumulation conveying distorted views of life?

It is certainly not all bad. Like everything, it is a spectrum… a pendulum, really.

The photo embroidery work I do abandons the impersonal and transcends preserving photographs and decoration.

The photographic art I practice involves exploring questions, feeling deeply, and expanding the meaning of photos beyond their mere use. It honors context, memories, and the ephemeral nature of experience by offering a renewed version of images that invites us to fully inhabit the present moment as we move forward individually and collectively. Its creation is a slow, craft and life-attuned journey of imbuing cherished photos with beauty and texture that stirs aliveness, while celebrating and building on the thread that has bound women together for thousands of years and across numerous cultures around the world who continue to devote themselves to textile work.

I write this already moved by the experience of reimagining your images with my needles, as well as by visibly threading you into the living, interdependent, wondrous world we’re all part of, despite the horrors and fictions of separation that have been unfolding worldwide for a long time. Fortunately, tomorrow is the new moon, marked by the beginning of the Chinese New Year of the Fire Horse, and this Friday, the Saturn-Neptune conjunction will take place at 0° Aries.
